Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Assistant for a 2-month temporary assignment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with chemical inventory management, regulatory compliance, and data accuracy. Key Responsibilities
Chemical Knowledge
- Understand chemical names, synonyms, and classifications (solvents, acids, bases, etc.)
- Interpret and utilize Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- Ensure proper chemical storage and compatibility
Inventory Management
- Use digital inventory tools (e.g., 3E, Quartzy, ChemTracker, SciQuest)
- Import, export, and audit inventory data
- Operate barcode scanning systems and follow labeling protocols
Data Management
- Accurately enter data (chemical names, CAS numbers, quantities, locations)
- Maintain records using Excel, databases, or other systems
Regulatory & Safety Compliance
- Follow OSHA, EPA, and local EHS standards
- Ensure proper hazardous material labeling and reporting
- Identify high-risk chemicals (flammables, reactives, carcinogens)
- Support spill response and emergency procedures
Organizational Skills
- Maintain precise labeling, location tracking, and quantity recording
- Organize storage locations logically by compatibility or function
- Update and audit inventory consistently
Time Management & Problem Solving
- Prioritize high-risk or frequently used chemicals
- Schedule and assist with periodic audits or cleanouts
- Address discrepancies between physical inventory and records
- Identify and correct outdated or mislabeled items
